Shia LaBeouf hinted at his struggle with alcohol in an interview prior to his alleged drunk driving arrest over the weekend.
The teen actor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after his truck flipped across a road and collided with another vehicle on Sunday. The incident allegedly followed a night of heavy drinking at a West Hollywood club with his Transformer 2 co-star Isabel Lucas, who sustained a minor head injury in the accident.
The 22-year-old star reveals he has a history with substance abuse in the September edition of men’s magazine Details. LaBeouf discloses that he and his father – a former heroin addict – would “drink together and smoke together” while he was growing up.
He revealed: “It’s just a bad deal. It’s not something that is conducive to being a role model – no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink.”
Although his lawyers insist he’ll be back working on the Transformers 2 set within a month, Shia LaBeouf remains in the hospital after undergoing surgery on his hand following his recent car accident.
