Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly blaming outside forces for being unable to find success after quitting their roles as senior royals.
A Los Angeles source pointed out that the former royal couple believed they were extremely unlucky. According to the source, they believe COVID-19, economic downturns, and the ill health and subsequent deaths of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II impeded their efforts to establish jobs in the private sector. Their spokespeople had made no statements about it. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were quitting significant royal duties in January 2020, just months before the world was put on lockdown due to the coronavirus epidemic. In March 2021, they delivered an explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey in which they spoke honestly about their frustration with the royal family, including a hurtful statement that an anonymous member questioned Prince Archie’s skin color before he was born. The Duke of Edinburgh died a month after the meeting, at the age of 99. Markle debuted a podcast, “Archetypes,” in August 2022, but it was overshadowed by the Queen’s death the following month. Despite the podcast’s popularity, Spotify and the Duke and Duchess declared in June that they would no longer be working together. At the time, an insider revealed that the couple had not generated enough content to warrant their $20 million deal. The announcement comes after the streaming company slashed 200 positions in an effort to save money. According to a source, Spotify was confused by some of Prince Harry’s recommendations for new podcast ideas. The prince reportedly proposed a series of interviews regarding childhood traumas with important figures such as Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Mark Zuckerberg. According to a source, the feasibility of Prince Harry’s ideas struck some Spotify staff as “questionable” because those celebrities rarely give interviews about their private lives. Spotify executive Bill Simmons also called the couple “lazy.” The sportscaster, who also serves as the head of Spotify’s foreign sports content, stated on his show that the couple are “f-king grifters.” The criticism doesn’t seem to affect Prince Harry, since a report indicated that he still expressed his desire to film a documentary series in Africa for Netflix.
